Do I want a HMD: Yes

Notes:

Background: Yuuya is a Japanese-American test pilot for the US army who was recently assigned to the Argos test flight as part of the XMFJ project. He was born to an American mother and a Japanese father. His father left while Yuuya was still very young leaving his mother and him to be ostracized by her family and exposed to a great deal of anti-Japanese racism which greatly impacted his world view and self-image. He lied about his age on his applications to enter military service at age 17 and pushed himself to make it into the Infinities test pilot team for the US army. He was involved in the testing of the F-22 Raptor until an accident lead to the death of the unit's Captain and drove a wedge between himself and his teammates.

After leaving the Infinities Yuuya was re-assigned to a joint development project with Boening and the Japanese government to develop the XJF-01 Shiranui Second into a new line model TSF for the Japanese forces.

Original canon background: The BETA invasion of Earth began in AE 70 shorty after the space colony Angel was destroyed. Hive impacts occured in several locations throughout Eastern Europe, Asia, and Japan (notably the island of Sadogashima). Humanoid robot development was already well underway but the denial of aerial reinforcements due to the impact of Laser class BETA led to a shift in development to create Tactical Surface Fighters. The deployment and use of TSF units allowed humanity to mitigate Laser class BETA and maintain the stalemate to prevent the loss of any further territory to the BETA until the Yokohama Incident in AE79. The Yokohama Incident was an attempt by the Beta to expand their Hive structure by burrowing rather than the initial Stab impact from orbital seeds (the latter having been prevented by weaponized sattelite interception posts) and took the city by surprise. Most of the Civilians were evacuated but approximately 1/4 of the cities population was lost. The JSSDF tried to suppress and reclaim the area but was unable to do so until the United States offered the use of it's newest weapon, the G-bomb. The bomb offered a localized high power explosion that destroyed the surface construction of the hive and allowed the TSF units to reclaim the area. The after-effects of the G-bomb were untested but seemed to have no ill effects on humans beyond unusual gravity distortions so the Japanese government quickly built the Yokohama base which began to host the 4th alternative plan. 4 years have passed since then and the XFJ project has been transferred to Fort Alhambra from the Yukon test base several weeks into development to increase test data and to represent TSFs in additional non-BETA related conflicts.

Notes; This is a fair adaption of the Muv-Luv history without the backs to the wall impact of the BETA. There are a few Cannon important locations (some for Eclipse but also to extend into Alternative proper) as follows:

Yukon Base: Original development location for the XFJ project. A multinational test base located in Alaska for TSF development. Plays Host to the Blue Shift training operations/tournament during which the Refugee Liberation Front (RLF) infiltrates and hijacks a large number of TSFs to push the world governments to offer more aid to refugees of global conflicts. BETA research specimens are released during this incident almost triggering the Red Shift that threatens to destroy a large chunk of Alaska to prevent BETA from spreading into North America. Yukon could POSSIBLY be incorporated to be Alhambra but the base is damaged badly enough and geographically locked for the Red Shift to make it somewhat problematic.

U-04 Frontline supply base: Located on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. Location of the battle named after it's location. A soviet base that was abandoned in part for political maneuvering within the soviet power structure and in part to make a bid for the Type-99 and it's black box.

Note: G-Elements

G-Elements are non-terrestrial element found only in BETA hives and certain classes of BETA (Most notably the Laser class beta Lux and Magnus Lux). They cause unique gravity reactions which allow for production of the relatively clean G-Bombs and other advanced weapons developments making their acquisition and research a high priority for certain governments and organizations. Widespread use of the G-Bombs in the Unlimited Timeline's Alternative V caused a catastrophic inversion of the worlds oceans leading to the loss of most of the habitable land on the planet (Not pertinent to Alternative directly but a potential tie-in for use in SRWU).

Personality: Yuuya's background has left him rather difficult personality. He is very headstrong and will often rush into a challenge without giving it proper thought which has led him to success with some aspects of his role as a test pilot but has also made him somewhat reckless which has led to some severe consequences for others around him. This behavior also results in him over-reacting to perceived slights and starting arguments where no offense was meant. While he was cleared by a board but still feels guilty about the F-22 test flight accident and wants to reach a position where he can turn it into a teaching experience to prevent another from making the same mistake.

Despite his somewhat reckless nature Yuuya is very quick to protect his comrades and will often risk his own safety to help them if need be. He was able to execute a surprisingly complicated plan with Stella to draw Tarisa into the open to be disabled by using his own TSF as bait. He is also prone to giving affectionate nicknames out to his fellow pilots which the other may or may not appreciate (Tarisa was dubbed "chobi" to her chagrin for her height, VG "Macaroni" for his nationality, and Stella "Venus" for her figure and collected personality).

Yuuya's biggest flaw is his extreme prejudice towards the Japanese due to the influence of his grandfather through his childhood and the recent death of his mother from illness did not improve these feelings at all. He considers their obedient and dutiful nature even in unfair or disadvantaged situations as "doll-like" after a lone Japanese doll that he feared and eventually grew to resent as a child. This tendency has cropped up with Yui Takamura where he resents his own poor performance with Japanese TSFs with their finer and more complex controls and has blamed the unit as being "junk" leading to an adversarial relationship between the two. Vincent has pointed out a lot of similarities between the two but Yuuya has thus far let his resentment and bitterness keep him from acknowledging Yui for her valued input which has led to setbacks with the development of the XJF-01 since he took on his role as primary test pilot.

Capabilities and Resources: Yuuya is a skilled Test Pilot who has studied both TSF vs. BETA and the American TSF vs. TSF combat doctrines extensively. He may not have a large degree of actual combat experience but his skills have been well honed through JIVES (unit based VR) and mock battle exercises which only enhanced his already high natural potential.

Type: Combatant

Unit Name: XFJ-01a Shiranui Second Phase 1
Unit Description: The Shiranui Second is a prototype Japanese unit developed with their sensibilities in mind. It is a higly agile machine with relatively light armor protection that favors close engagement of targets with a mix of melee and close range fire capabilities. Yuuya's typically carries a Gun Interceptor loadout (see loadouts below)
Size: Medium (19.7 Meters for the XFJ-01a Phase 1)
Terrain compatibility:
Air: Yes
Ground: Yes
Water: No
Space:No
Favored terrain: Ground

Type-97 Fubuki - Similar unit to above but lower performance/higher reliability. Japanese Training TSF.

Unit Name: F-15-ACTV Active Eagle
Unit Description: US TSF favoring ranged combat and raw speed over the fine maneuverability of Japanese TSFs. Equipped with basic stealth capabilities and typically carries a Gun Sweeper Load-out.
Size: Medium (Similar to Shiranui Second)
Terrain compatibility:
Air: Yes
Ground: Yes
Water: No
Space: No
Favored terrain: Air

Unit Name: Type-00F Takemikazuchi
Unit Description: An advanced 3rd generation TSF tuned to high output in close combat. These units are used by elite forces within the Japanese army (most notably the Royal Guard) and are prohibitively expensive to field as a force-wide standard. The Type-00F is fielded by scions of politically powerful military families or bodyguards to high ranking politically powerful officers. The color of the unit determines between the two with Yellow being for the former (Yui's unit fits this class) and Red for the latter.
Size: Medium (19.4M)
Terrain compatibility:
Air: Yes
Ground: Yes
Water: No
Space: No
Favored terrain: Ground

Note: The type 00F issued to the Argos Flight is for use by Yui Takamura exclusively in her role as White Fang-1 in the Royal Guard's Test Flight.

F-15E Eagle - Precursor to the Strike Eagle. Lacks the Stealth Capabilities and has overall lower performance than the Active Eagle. Is a reliable TSF and is the go-to unit for Orbital Drop operations by UN TSF forces.

Load-outs: As a design feature of 2nd and 3rd generation TSFs they traditionally rely on external equipment to fill a role rather than built-in/permanent equipment. This allows for units to more easily be customized to a mission and to change roles mid-operation by use of supply drops. Damaged/expended equipment if often left where it is no longer functional to lighten weight and increase fuel efficiency/maneuverability. The exception is internal hive operations in which re-supply/recovery is not feasible. Load-outs are generic as each nation/force block uses it's own versions of each equipment piece.

Storm Vanguard - 1x 36mm/120mm assault cannon (4x36mm magazines, 2x120mm), 1x Supplemental Armor, 2x Melee Halberd, 2x Close combat daggers (CCD)

Strike Vanguard - 2x 36/120mm assault canons (4x36mm mags, 2x120mm), 2x Melee Halberd, 2x CCD.

Gun Sweeper - 4x 36/120mm assault cannons (8x36, 2x120 mags), 2x CCD

Gun Interceptor - 1x 36mm/120mm assault cannon (4x36, 2x120 mags), 1x supplemental armor, 1x Melee Halberd, 2x CCD

Rush Guard - 1x36mm Support Assault Cannon (12x36mm mags), 2x 36/120mm assault cannons (4x36 and 2x120 mags), 2x CCD

Impact Guard - 1x 36mm Support Assault Cannon (12x36mm mags), 1x Melee Halberd, 2x CCD

Blast Guard - 1x 36/120mm Assault Cannon (2x36mm, 2x120mm mags), 1x Supplemental Armor, 2x Missile Containers, 2x CCD.

Equipment Roles:

Assault Cannon - The standard 36mm rapid fire rifle combined with an over/under 120mm cannon for hardened/grouped targets. 36mm magazine is 2000 rounds of High Velocity AP with tracers mixed in for fire correction. 120mm rounds are traditionally Ballistic APHE for hardened targets but can also carry Sabot rounds or if large numbers of "soft" targets are being engaged Canister or HESH (High-Explosive Squash Head, used to more accurately contain regionalized explosions.

Support Assault Cannon - 36mm rifle with 2000 round magazines. The 120mm cannon has been removed in favor of a scope system to create a sniper/fire support weapon to pick off specific targets (notably Laser-class BETA).

Supplemental Armor - A TSF scale shield. Used for front-line roles or for heavy units who might have their maneuverability reduced by their load-out. Reactive segments in the equipment make it a potent melee bludgeon or serve as a deterrent to keep smaller classes of beta from climbing over the equipment to the pilot.

Melee Halberd - Generic term for any primary melee weapons carried by a TSF. Construction varies by country with unique traits by nation (i.e. Chinese variants are heavier at the end relying on weight to add force while Japanese variants are weighted towards the handle for easier maneuvering while relying on momentum to add cutting power). US units have no equipment in this class relying on the standard CCD as it's only recourse in melee.

CCD (Close Combat Dagger) - Originally developed as a tool it was quickly re-purposed as a weapon for TSF units. It is a super-carbon blade stored in forearm sheathes on all TSF units. Most types are extremely similar due to a common originator and nature as a desperation weapon.

S-11 System - A high power explosive carried by European and Asian TSFs. This device is similar to a low yield tactical nuclear weapon without any of the fallout of G-Weapons or Nukes. Traditionally used for hive destruction (core/obstructions) by removal and placement it also serves as self-destruct device for the unit to prevent consumption by the BETA. Any fallen units who did not use the device can have it potentially recovered and used as a devastatingly effective hand grenade variant. US hit-and-run ranged doctrine meant to save resources and pilots means most of their units do not carry this system though they have the capability to do so (and all units operating under the UN are actively equipped with this).

Note: TSF capabilities and doctrine are fairly unique when compared to other mobile suits. The Manipulator arms on the unit are designed to make reloading simple (Japanese Style TSFs typically include ammo storage in the skirt armor which is accessible by these arms) and rely on other automated correction and movement patterns to make the high speed maneuvering easier. The holding arms are also usable for units so a TSF can open fire with a gun in each hand and use the manipulator arms to fire with the two in storage at the same time if additional firepower is needed (though with a notable sacrifice of accuracy). Also of note is that TSF arms are not direction locked meaning they can bend their "elbow" in the opposite direction to fire behind them if need be. They are a combined development of a mobile suit/fighter jet without the transformative nature of a veritech.

Upgrades: Shiranui Second Phase 2 - An update to the XFJ-01a after the U-04 incident. It adds increased fuel capacity, vectored maneuvering thrusters on the waist and shoulders, and an improved radar/infrared targeting system to the Phase 1 model. This increases it's maneuverability, operation time and target detection/acquisition notably.

XM3 OS - An improved OS for the basic type-94 which was adapted to the Type-00 Takemikazuchi and other compatible Japanese TSFs. This OS update adds a learning function to take the burden of position changes off of the pilot by learning favored positions for load-outs and maneuvers and automatically adjusting the unit allowing the pilot to pay more attention to the battlefield. This OS also allows the pilot to cancel/overwrite automatic functions of the OS (i.e. auto-stabilization/correction for landing/falling) in favor of other maneuvers or attacks helping to close a window of vulnerability in the TSF where landing and other maneuvers could lock the unit into specific movements and remove the pilot's ability to evade/counterattack.

Wingmen: Argos-2: Tarisa Manadal: XFJ-01b Shiranui Second - Strike Vanguard
Argos 3: Valerio Giacosa: F-15-ACTV Active Eagle - Gun Sweeper
Argos 4: Stella Bremer: F-15-ACTV Active Eagle - Rush Guard/Gun Sweeper

Note: Other NPCs include the Sgt. Vincent Lowell Yuuya's best friend/mechanic, Lt. Ibrahim Dogulu (Flight Commander), and Development Chief Yui Takamura (White Fang-1). The flight brings along 2 F-15 Eagles, a Type-97 Fubuki, and Yui's Type-00F as additional units.

Mission requirement: None
Suggested Event List: Battle: A hard lesson - Yuuya is continuing to have difficulty with mastering the Shiranui Second by finding the proper hand for manipulating the machine. After a drawn out training mission an unexpected challenger appears in the form of Yui Takamura in her Type-00F Takemikazuchi to teach a lesson in a more direct manner.

Event: Southern Sea PR! - During a trip taken for R&R for pilots and as a PR event for the various groups and factions that have come together for the Unity Group the pilots take a trip to a sunny southern island. During the trip one of the members goes missing and during the search Yui and Yuuya wind up stranded on an inlet during a typhoon. As they seek shelter in a cave the past is confronted and feelings begin to shift.

Event(or battle): Kamchatka Peninsula Test - Test of the Type-99 Electromagnetic Induction Cannon (aka: Chain Rail Gun) - This event takes place on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia where Beta are split and herded to test flights for live testing of new designs/weapons. Unusual BETA activity proves the worth of the Type-99 when it deals horrific damage to a BETA horde setting an unprecedented Kill count for a single pilot in one engagement.

Battle: U-04 Supply Base Battle: Returning home after the Kamchatka event the U-04 Supply base is attacked while Yui Takamura is preparing the Type-99 for transit back to Yukon. The heroes need to reach the base rescue Yui and the Type-99 black box/development data while dealing with Beta, Russian Bombers, and other aggressors with unknown goals.

Event: XJF-01 Shiranui Second Phase 2 unveiling - After the damage sustained in the U-04 Incident the Shiranui Second was rebuilt in line with the second phase development and the second unit was constructed. In a formal ceremony for the pilots and project's backers the upgraded units are revealed.

Battle/Event: Blue Flag Exercises: Units from around the world meet at Yukon base to compete in a series of Mock Battles as competition and training. The Infinities enter, part of Yuuya's past is revealed(F-22 Incident), and someone moves in the shadows with their own Agenda.

Event: Multinational Dinner - a chance for pilots of the blue flag exercises to get together and share some of their native dishes and develop relationships outside of the competition. Inordinate popularity and a surprisingly nostalgic flavor leave Yuuya with revelations and new questions.

Battle: Yukon Base Incident - The Refugee Liberation Front stirred up by a pro-beta group seize Yukon Base and take over it's flights of TSFs in a bid to improve the amount of aid given to them by what is perceived to be governments more interested in weapons than people. A large number of test samples are released and the Red Shift is revealed, a series of deeply buried high-yield nuclear devices designed to prevent the spread of BETA into North America. The Team has to re-take the base from insurgents while stopping the BETA and subduing the scarlet twins, a pair of soviet born espers piloting a TSF in a berserk state manifesting unusual psychic phenomena to enhance their attacks/defense. Probably a dual-stage mission with one group defending the base proper from the RLF's hijacked TSF forces and another group responsible for countering the BETA threat and subduing the Scarlet Twins.

Note:This is where Total Eclipse leaves off leaving a 1 month gap before the beginning of Muv-Luv Alternative in the Cannon timeline. Once we begin approaching the Yukon incident I will probably put in for Takeru and Meiya from Alternative proper to continue the storyline.
